JAI#49 - Just Add Summer!!

Another Christmas over and another New Year to look forward to...have you made any New Year's resolutions yet?

Over at Just Add Ink we are finishing off 2010 with a new Just Add Summer...and for some of us this past Christmas we may have wondered where that has been! Here in Tasmania our Christmas days were very varied - warm, sunny, windy, cooler - it just hasn't felt like a hot Aussie summer here yet. However, I wanted to get in to the spirit of the challenge and so I took inspiration from the summer sunsets my husband and I often see when walking our dog Chloe on the beach in the evenings - which I keep forgetting to take my camera with me to take a snapshot of. I also found inspiration from Michelle Zindorf who does some lovely brayering/sponging to replicate some of these beautiful displays of nature...and which I can only try to emulate.

Anyway here is my card which included sponging (no brayer in sight this time!)...I was reasonably happy with the results...although I would love to be in the United States so that I could attend one of Michelle's workshops and get first-hand inspiration and her tips!

Stamps: Inspired by Nature, Every Moment
Inks: Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, More Mustard, Cajun Craze, Basic Black
Paper: Whisper White, Soft Suede, Basic Black
Accessories: Sponges, Eclipse Paper (non SU! product), White Gel Pen

I felt that the sentiment in the Every Moment stamp set truly reflected what we can get from taking a moment and enjoying the beauty that God has provided us in nature, whether it be summer time, autumn, winter or spring.

Why don't you pop on over to the Just Add Ink blog and see what other wonderful, summery inspiration the other Design Team members have provided and then join in the fun and Just Add Summer to your next project!

Secret Santa

The Just Add Ink Design Team, of which I am part of, recently had a Secret Santa swap and it has been exciting to see what others were receiving and then receiving one myself today when I went to the Post Office to collect our mail. It has also been a bit difficult to keep things completely secret when we are so wide spread and you have to sign declaration statements when posting parcels these days, promising they are not dangerous or prohibited goods!

My Secret Santa gave me a beautiful little gift which was so well packaged that it arrived in one piece and will be treasured for a long time...especially as it was a little treasure chest full of little treasures just for me!!

Here is what I found when I opened my parcel...isn't it an absolutely cute little treasure chest?

And, inside I found these little treasures...

Some beautiful SU! ribbons and embelishments (of course she knows I love SU! products) and some other embelishments which will come in handy with making some male oriented gifts. More specifically how did she know I am going to be scrapbooking my wedding photos (although 25 years later!) and therefore included some little metal plaques with a wedding theme taht will go so beautifully with what I had in mind! There was of course some chocolates to sustain me while crafting! Although these won't last long, LOL!

I suspect I know who my SS is but it could be one of two from the location it was sent, unless there was some sneaky stuff happening with other JAI team members assisting in posting on parcels!

The little gift card that came with my treasure trove of gifts was so cute and definitely something I will be CASEING for sure, just love it! Thanks so very much to my Secret Santa!

Commissioned cards...

Recently I was commissioned to make a couple of very special cards for a child's school teacher and another for a child's day carer who was finishing up. Suzie the day carer loved the colour purple and butterflies so I incorporated that into the card I made, which was inspired by cards made recently by Bronwyn Eastley.

Here are the two cards I made (thanks Tanya for taking the photos as I had forgotten to before I gave them you!)...

For Mrs Park I had fun customising the Two-Step Owl Punch into Christmas Owls...aren't they so damn cute!

Have a great weekend!

December Frenzy Sale Update - stocks running low!

This sale has been so successful that stocks of markers that are part of this promotion are beginning to run low. Stampin' Up! have recently announced that to prevent backorders, the following markers will return to their normal pricing on 13 December: Night of Navy, Pumpkin Pie and Bravo Burgundy.

After 11:50 PM (AEDT) TODAY, 12 December, these markers will no longer be available at their discounted prices.

There are also a number of other Stampin' Write Markers that are steadily approaching their promotion limits; once they've met the limit, they also will return to their regular prices. Unfortunately, SU! will not be able to give demonstrators advance notice for future items that may run out.

Therefore, I encourage you to contact me ASAP if you want to take advantage of great December Frenzy pricing--especially on Stampin' Write Markers--DO NOT wait any longer and place your orders today!

Click here or on the flyer above to see what has been discounted.

Enjoy the remainder of your weekend.

JAI#47 - Color Combo!

It's that time of the week again for another Just Add Ink challenge and this one was a nice bright and cheery one! Atleast I thought so, it is a colour combo...

These colours just called out 'children's birthday card' to me and so that is what I created. It also gave me the opportunity to play with some of my new SU! products from the current Summer Mini Catalogue - Builder Wheels and the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.

Stamps: Birthday and So Many Stars (new: Builder Wheels)
Inks: Tempting Turquoise, Daffodil Delight, Riding Hood Red, Basic Gray
Cardstock/Paper: Basic Gray, Tempting Turquoise, Riding Hood Red, Whisper White, YoYo Yellow (I didn't have any Daffodil Delight cardstock, not even one scrap!)
Accessories: Stampin' Around Jumbo Handle and Builder Wheel Spindle/Spacer, Textured Impressions Square Lattice Embossing Folder, Big Shot, Daffodil Delight 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon, Star Extra-Large Punch, Scallop Edge Border Punch, Paper Piercer, Snail Adhesive and Stampin' Dimensionals

I don't usually put things inside my card, I leave that for the giver of the card, however as I had made my card base from Basic Gray cardstock I thought I would put some cardstock inside for ease of writing on. To let you in on a little secret, on my first attempt at the roller wheel I decided to go free-hand and just rolled my image across the Whisper White cardstock but of course I went crooked. Therefore, I got out my trusty Stampin' Around Wheel Guide and on my second go I was straight! So as not to waste my previous efforts this is the piece that I cut out for the inside of my card - but I simply used the straight section, before I went skewiff!

I hope you enjoyed seeing what I made for this colour combo and some insight into the making of it. Now pop on over to the Just Add Ink blog and see what other stunning creations the other DT members have come up with and then have some fun and join in too!

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to leave a comment if you this inspires you in some way.

Commissioned Christmas Gift Packs

Not only have I recently been commissioned to make some Thank You cards but also some personalised Christmas cards for a teacher and a child carer (and I forgot to take photos, hoping the person who requested them will take some for me!) which I was pleased with the results but can't share them here because no pictures! I need to remember to take pictures of everything I make!!

Anyway, another request I had was for some Christmas Gift Packs that included coordinating cardstock (as the recipients already had stamp sets) with matching accessories. Here is what I came up with (but yet again I almost forgot to take photos and had to do these quickly using my phone and in the car just before I delivered them!). The giver of these gifts was very happy with what I put together and now I am thinking of doing something similar to sell at our market stalls - perhaps it can be a way to sell off some of my out-of-date cardstock which I forget to use.

When I put these packs together I selected a key colour, because I had that cardstock and matching ribbon mainly, and then using the fabulous new Color Coach I was able to quickly and easily select matching colours and then accessories, so these kits came together quite quickly. (Sorry for the poor quality photos.)

I always have the Color Coach sitting on my table because if I get stuck for inspiration or need help putting colours together then this is a fabulous tool to have on hand.

Color Coach #121620 - $28.95 (a great investment).

Thank You cards...

I can't remember if I have shared these cards with you that I made several weeks back for a friend, so I thought I would just pop them on here in case I didn't. I enjoyed making these cards for my friend and I know she was very happy with them and that the people she wanted them for will enjoy them too!

I have made an additional 'Thank You cards' category that is listed on the LHS of my blog so it is easier to find cards like these when you need some inspiration on making thank you cards - it will also help me to keep track of what I share on here with you all.

Hi, and welcome to the Just Add Ink Swap (Blog) Hop!

The Just Add Ink Design Team members recently had our own team swap where we all made multiple cards or 3-D items to swap with the rest of the group---we wanted to share our talents and to have something made by each of us for inspiration and enjoyment---so we ended up with a copy of everyone's design. The excitement over the swaps then led on to a discussion about having a blog hop to share with you all what we all made.

What is a blog hop you say (for those new to this concept)? It is where you hop from one blog to another following the links. There are 14 stops in total---the Just Add Ink site plus our 13 Design Team members---the hop is set in a loop, so it doesn't matter where you start or finish. All you need to do to follow along is click the "swap hop" button at the end of each post and you'll be taken to the next stop!

Chances are you’ve come here from the very talented Paula Dobson's blog or perhaps you’ve just popped in on the off chance that there is something new to see.

Either way, it’s great to have you here :)

Now let’s get started shall we…?!

The card I made for each of the DT members has already been shown on my blog previously but here it is again for visitors who have not seen it is a Z-fold card...but slightly different to other designs by this same name!

Stamps: Friends Never Fade
Cardstock/Paper: Greenhouse Gala DSP, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight
Ink: Pear Pizzazz, Baja Breeze
Accessories: Clear Embossing Powder, Stampin' Dimensionals

What I like about making these cards, beside the fact that it is a different card style, is that you can very quickly make two cards from one sheet of A4 cardstock without wastage! If you would like to know how to make these cards check out my earlier step-by-step tutorial post by clicking here!

To continue on the swap tour, just click the image below and keep on hoppin’! Next up is the Just Add Ink site where it starts and from there on to Danielle's blog

Stampin' Up! Summer Mini Catalogue

The Stampin' Up! Summer Mini Catalogue is finally here! You may view the catalogue in its entirety by clicking HERE.

What is your favourite product from the new Summer Mini? I love the specialty designer series paper Presto Patterns Specialty from page 10 and the new Smooch Spritz. When I get my samples photographed I will post them here on my blog. I can't WAIT to play with the Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder on page 17! I've seen the amazing texture it impresses on to cardstock, and it's gorgeous! I was lucky enough to receive for FREE at Regionals the stamp set, Love Defined on page 6! It'll come in handy for Valentine's Day cards or any romantic project I make. The Sentimental Journey stamp set with the coordinating Travel Journal Designer Paper makes me wish that I could travel overseas to the UK or Europe! My list goes on and on but I would love to hear what your favourites from the Summer Mini are or what you have on your wishlist!

JAI#45 Sketch Challenge...

It's a sketch challenge for this week over at Just Add Ink, and this is the sketch we had to play with:

This week the Baja Breezers are designing and that includes me, so here is my entry:

Stamps: Something Sweet
Cardstock/Paper: Baja Breeze, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White and a piece off DSP that was in my 'scrap pieces' (not sure of the DSP pack name sorry!)
Inks: Cherry Cobbler (a favourite of mine at the moment!), Chocolate Chip, Pear Pizzazz, Rose Red, Pumpkin Pie
Accessories: Sweet Treat Cups, Stampin' Dimensionals, Round Tab Punch, Skittles lollies

As I had a day out of action this week due to my vertigo flaring up I needed to get as many items crossed off my 'To Do List' as possible and so I combined a birthday card for my nephew Damian, who is turning 3, with this week's sketch challenge -- so two things done in one go! Now onto the many other items on the list!

Above is a close-up of how I made a slider to cover the hole so Damian could get to the lollies easier and without destroying the card!

Below is a shot taken of the inside of the card...

I had fun getting out this stamp set again and using another of my Sweet Treat Cups, I can't believe I haven't used them all yet. I hope Damian enjoys his card and his sweets!

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to pop on over to the Just Add Ink blog for some more inspiration from the other wonderful creations put together by the very talented Design Team and then join in the fun by submitting your own creation!

Enjoy your weekend.

2011 Desktop Calendars

Recently I needed to make some calendars for our J@Mpot market stall and decided on a desktop variety as we had already made some hanging calendars (sorry forgot to take a photo of those!) and these are what I created, I was pleased with the results...

These are easy to make and look so cute on a desk that I think I am going to make some of these as Christmas presents for friends and family! What I also like about them is that they fold down flat and can fit into a standard C6 size envelope, which means they are an ideal gift for posting to the mainland or overseas. It is always nice to make and give hand-made items that you have put something of yourself into and that someone can use and enjoy.

If you would like to book a workshop to learn how make one of these then contact me today!
(P.S. I may not get back to you though until after the weekend as we are having our family reunion and celebrating my father's 75th birthday, which is today---Happy Birthday Dad!---this weekend and I will busy playing with my nieces and nephews!).

Welcome Christmas & DSP

Recently I made some very quick Christmas cards that I was extremely pleased with in terms of simple elegance and colour coordination....that is one of the reasons I love using Stampin' Up!® products....everything coordinates! One of the bundles that I purchased in the Dressing Up Christmas Promotion included the stamp set Welcome Christmas and coordinating designer seriers paper Christmas Cocoa Specialty and these are some of the cards that I made with them together and using a lovely new colour Early Espresso (this might start replacing my love of using Chocolate Chip, or maybe not!) to stamp the images. Don't you just love the names---makes me think of coffee and chocolate---another love of mine!

I mounted them on Cherry Cobbler cardstock (another of our new colours), although I don't like cherries, I do love the shade of red of this cardstock. Using greetings from the stamp set Four the Holidays just finished them off nicely! What do you think?

This promotion finishes on 30 November so for more details click on the image on the left-side of my blog to download the promotional flyer and contact me soon to get your hands on a lovely set and receive some FREE ribbon!
