JAI#45 Sketch Challenge...

It's a sketch challenge for this week over at Just Add Ink, and this is the sketch we had to play with:

This week the Baja Breezers are designing and that includes me, so here is my entry:

Stamps: Something Sweet
Cardstock/Paper: Baja Breeze, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White and a piece off DSP that was in my 'scrap pieces' (not sure of the DSP pack name sorry!)
Inks: Cherry Cobbler (a favourite of mine at the moment!), Chocolate Chip, Pear Pizzazz, Rose Red, Pumpkin Pie
Accessories: Sweet Treat Cups, Stampin' Dimensionals, Round Tab Punch, Skittles lollies

As I had a day out of action this week due to my vertigo flaring up I needed to get as many items crossed off my 'To Do List' as possible and so I combined a birthday card for my nephew Damian, who is turning 3, with this week's sketch challenge -- so two things done in one go! Now onto the many other items on the list!

Above is a close-up of how I made a slider to cover the hole so Damian could get to the lollies easier and without destroying the card!

Below is a shot taken of the inside of the card...

I had fun getting out this stamp set again and using another of my Sweet Treat Cups, I can't believe I haven't used them all yet. I hope Damian enjoys his card and his sweets!

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to pop on over to the Just Add Ink blog for some more inspiration from the other wonderful creations put together by the very talented Design Team and then join in the fun by submitting your own creation!

Enjoy your weekend.

2011 Desktop Calendars

Recently I needed to make some calendars for our J@Mpot market stall and decided on a desktop variety as we had already made some hanging calendars (sorry forgot to take a photo of those!) and these are what I created, I was pleased with the results...

These are easy to make and look so cute on a desk that I think I am going to make some of these as Christmas presents for friends and family! What I also like about them is that they fold down flat and can fit into a standard C6 size envelope, which means they are an ideal gift for posting to the mainland or overseas. It is always nice to make and give hand-made items that you have put something of yourself into and that someone can use and enjoy.

If you would like to book a workshop to learn how make one of these then contact me today!
(P.S. I may not get back to you though until after the weekend as we are having our family reunion and celebrating my father's 75th birthday, which is today---Happy Birthday Dad!---this weekend and I will busy playing with my nieces and nephews!).

Welcome Christmas & DSP

Recently I made some very quick Christmas cards that I was extremely pleased with in terms of simple elegance and colour coordination....that is one of the reasons I love using Stampin' Up!® products....everything coordinates! One of the bundles that I purchased in the Dressing Up Christmas Promotion included the stamp set Welcome Christmas and coordinating designer seriers paper Christmas Cocoa Specialty and these are some of the cards that I made with them together and using a lovely new colour Early Espresso (this might start replacing my love of using Chocolate Chip, or maybe not!) to stamp the images. Don't you just love the names---makes me think of coffee and chocolate---another love of mine!

I mounted them on Cherry Cobbler cardstock (another of our new colours), although I don't like cherries, I do love the shade of red of this cardstock. Using greetings from the stamp set Four the Holidays just finished them off nicely! What do you think?

This promotion finishes on 30 November so for more details click on the image on the left-side of my blog to download the promotional flyer and contact me soon to get your hands on a lovely set and receive some FREE ribbon!

JAI#43 - Just Add Christmas!

This week's challenge over at Just Add Ink is to 'Just Add Christmas!'. I know it is getting close now and I am not organised or even on the way to being organised for Christmas --- only 43 days to go, but whose counting!

My design this week includes the beautiful, touchy/feely (such a word?) flocked DSP sheet that came in the Christmas Cocoa Specialty DSP pack -- this is still available in the Christmas Gift-Giving Bundle -- so check out my earlier posting on this Dress Up Christmas special which is available until 30 November.

After I made my card I realised it also coordinated with a little 'pre-Christmas' gift I gave to all those who attended my Christmas Stamp-a-Stack sessions last Friday and so I thought I would include it in my pictures as Christmas is a time of gift-giving as well as all the Christmas cards we give and receive. Not too much red in my design?

I could have also added a 'red' dot to Dasher's nose to make him into Rudolph or would that have been too much?

Stamps: Dasher, Perfect Punches, Occasional Quotes (Level 3 Hostess Set)
Cardstock/Paper: Real Red, Christmas Cocoa Specialty DSP, Whisper White
Inks: Early Espresso, Real Red, Soft Suede
Accessories: Scallop Circle Punch, 1 3/8" Circle Punch, Creative Memories Circle Cutters, Pillow Box Bigz Die, White 5/8" Satin Ribbon, Antique Brads (love these!), Basic Rhinestones, Photo Corners Extra Large Punch, Stampin' Dimensionals, adhesives

I just love the Antique Brads and thought they complemented the flocked DSP piece that I selected and I also wanted to play with the effect of where they pinch the beautiful satin ribbon - such a simple technique but a lovely look I think.

Usually I don't do anything in the centre of my cards but this time I thought that I might, especially as I used Real Red for my card base rather than the Whisper White, Very Vanilla or Crumb Cake that I tend to use. I layered a piece of Whisper White on the inside and stamped the edges with the decorative 'antlers' from the Dasher stamp. To let you in on a little secret, when I stamped the top 'antlers' I actually managed to get a bit of Dasher's nose on my white cardstock, so to cover my 'mistake' I used some photo corners punched out in Real Red on the top section.

I then stamped a beautiful little quote from the Level 3 Hostess Set - Occasional Quotes - to finish off the card.

I hope you find the time to play with the challenge this week on Just Add Ink and get some inspiration leading up to Christmas.

Have an awesome weekend and find time to smile and enjoy the company of others or some quiet time for yourself if that is what you need!

CASE Study #13

Over on CASE Study Challenge Blog the idea behind their challenges is to get inspired by some of the most talented paper crafters in the industry. They feature a new Guest Designer (Muse) every month, and show you how this person inspires them and then they want us to do just the same! So today I decided that I would join in and do just that!

They've got a brand new Muse - the talented Heather Pulvirenti and this is the card that I created based on her first inspiration card for the month...

Stamps: Well Scripted
Cardstock/Paper: Crumb Cake, Christmas Cocoa Specialty DSP, Soft Suede, Real Red
Inks: Soft Suede
Accessories: Two-Step Bird Extra Large Punch, Two-Step Owl Extra Large Punch, Real Red 5/8" Satin Ribbon, Stampin' Dimensions, adhesive

I just love that cute owl punch and I was happy to use my new stamp set Well Scripted that I received in my preorder from the upcoming SU! Summer Mini Catalogue!

I loved the simplicity of Heather's inspiration card and had fun making this card, why don't you join in the fun and check out the CASE Study blog!

Who is in my bed?

Before I post about a recent card I made I thought you might like to see what happens in our household when I get out of bed and who 'pops' in with my DH.

This is my side of the bed and as you can see our dog Chloe thinks she is 'human' and can fill my place in our bed. She gets under the doona, puts her head on the pillow and goes back to sleep! DH was still fast asleep on the other side -- we all joke at home that she is his girlfriend because she loves to get into bed with him and snuggle up and when he comes home from work she is quick to rush out and greet him with hugs (paws wrapped around his legs) and sloppy kisses!

I actually had to use the flash to get these photos as it was still quite dark in our bedroom and as you can see this disturbed Chloe and she has that look of 'oh no I have been sprung, do I really have to get out!'

I think I am going to have to dedicate a small scrapbook album to this pooch as she has so many quirky little characteristics that it would be shame to forget, just like when our kids were growing up! I should also do one for our cat 'Sammy' who passed away this past year as our kids miss her and some of her little habits too!

Thank You cards...

I needed to make a few Thank You cards today and these are what I came up with...

Not sure that the colour of this pink ribbon is really right for this card, but I was actually playing around with tying "perfect" bows, as inspired by the talented Danielle Daws who referred me to a couple of video links via her blog.

This Soft Suede one is the one I like the best, which one do you prefer?

All the cards above allowed me to experiment with tying different types of bows and also was a way for me to use up card front panels that I had previously stamped or experimented with various techniques but had not made up into cards. I often think I should just use up bits and pieces that I have laying around instead of ordering more SU! product - but who can resist when there are so many new things always coming out - I did my preorder from the SU! Summer Mini Catalogue earlier this week and can't wait for it to arrive so I can play with some new things - sorry can't let the cat out of the bag just yet!

Maybe in the next few weeks you might see some projects here using some of those new products when they eventually arrive!
