Clearance Rack Blitz

I know I am late announcing Stampin' Up!'s Clearance Rack Blitz here on my blog but I have busy as per usual and have not had time to devote to my craft or blog!

Stampin' Up! have taken many items out of retirement and have hugely discounted them on these clearance racks which will run from 14 December (see I am late!) to 21 January 2013. To see what items are on the clearance racks click the image below and it will take you to my Stampin' website where each week's promotion will be available.

Be aware that many items run out quickly and may already be sold in the current promotion, so let me know if you want to order anything from these clearance racks and I will put your order in.

Have fun browsing the racks and snapping up a bargain!

JAI#148 - Just Add Christmas!

Scarce between posts and it seems that if it wasn't for the fortnightly Just Add Ink challenges that I am committed to (try and do!) I wouldn't have any posts on my blog lately! So just quickly to get this post scheduled while I am away for a few quick days visiting Gary's family in Geelong, Victoria...here is this week's challenge...

Just Add Christmas!

I really did just quickly pop into my (very messy) craft room tonight for 10 minutes and whipped up these two Christmas gift cards. Not very imaginative but I was quite pleased with how they turned out...maybe I overthink my creating at times and so therefore do not create!

The two black gift cards had been previously cut and folded for another project which I obviously did not complete and so I simply stamped Whisper White Craft Inked snowflakes from my Snow Swirled stamp set that was sitting on my desk on to the front of the cards. I then stamped the greeting from my new (yet unmounted but partly used) More Merry Messages stamp set (that was also sitting open on my craft desk!) with Basic Black ink onto Whisper White card. I then mounted these onto some Champagne Glimmer Paper and raised the panels off the card bases with some Stampin' Dimensionals. Voila! Two completed gift cards ready for the last JAI challenge of 2012 and for adding to some gifts this Christmas.

Thanks to the team over at Just Add Ink for being such a friendly, supportive and generous group to work with on these weekly challenges and thanks to all our regularly and random followers who have joined in and had fun with our challenges during 2012...please come back again in 2013 and join in again!

If I don't get to add another post here before Christmas to all my friends and followers...have a very Happy Christmas and a safe New Year!

JAI#146 - Colour Challenge

A bit late with my own personal post for this week's Just Add Ink challenge, but better late than never!

This week we have a Colour Challenge suggested by the lovely Kim Badelt and it is...

The colours this week made me think of butterflies and I also wanted to try out my new stamp set and coordinating punch, so here is my card...

I coloured my pearls with a mixture of Pool Party ink and Crystal Effects to help them blend more with the colours I was using. As didn't have any Pool Party Bakers Twine I decided to twist my Pool Party ribbon to make it thinner as I wrapped it around the front panel. I even decorated the inside of the card too...

Don't forget to pop on over to Just Add Ink as the other girls have made some lovely cards using the colour challenge provided.

JAI#144 - Just Add...Music

Just popping in quickly, while hacking into my parent's internet connection in Devonport (meant to be packing up 9yrs worth of collection of household items and memorabilia), to post my weekly Just Add Ink submission. This week Trish gave us the challenge to Just Add...Music!

I hadn't done my project until Tuesday morning when I had 20-30mins to spare before work, so that is when I put it together, and so here it is...

Check out how the other team members incorporated music into their projects this week at Just Add Ink and then join in the challenge with us.

JAI#142 - Sketch Challenge

Well it is Friday and that means another Just Add Ink challenge, and with all the sadness over the last few weeks it is nice to be able to find a little time to create and get back into some normal activities. Yesterday, it was my friend's birthday and she just loves Kombis and so this image, sent to me by Jodene Tripp, was just perfect (although my colouring is no where near Jodene's) and so I combined it with this week's sketch challenge.

Here is the sketch...

Here is my finished card...

I even decorated the inside a little...

The girls over at Just Add Ink have some lovely inspiration for you, so don't forget to pop on over and check out the lovely projects and then have some fun with the sketch yourself.

MIA

Just a very quick note to explain why I will be MIA here on my blog for the next few weeks...my dear mum passed away on Sunday from a sudden heart attack, she was only 68yo and was my father's full-time carer as he has Parkinsons' Disease. I am currently staying in Devonport dealing with my mum's passing, the funeral preparations and taking on the role of Carer for my father until we can determine what is to happen in the future.

So greatful for our family's faith in the Lord, which is helping us through this difficult time. My heartfelt thanks to those friends and acquaintenances that have checked in on me regularly over the last few days it has been a blessing.

The Huisman Clan above, as my father calls us! Mum & Dad, front centre, surrounded by their 5 children (1 missing, who died from suicide 18 years ago, inset photo), 20 grandchildren (3 have partners) and 1 great-grandchild who is only 2mths old and whom mum did not get to meet before she died. A big, loving family and a terrific reflection on the value of family that my parents have instilled in us all through their actions and faith in Christ.

JAI #139 - Theme Challenge

Well I am a bit late with this week's post for Just Add Ink's challenge, which started on Friday, but I have been distracted with the excitement of picking up my new car yesterday...we have bought a brand new Nissan XTrail...hubby thought I was going to sleep in it last night as we had gone for a lovely drive in it and then I spent a couple of hours sitting in it reading parts of the User Manual on how things worked...including ringing from the driveway to him inside the house playing with my phone and bluetooth!

Anway, enough of that news now onto the challenge for this week at Just Add Ink. With the release of the new Stampin' Up! Catalogue and Holiday Mini we thought it would be a good idea to have the challenge focussed on 'new' items...so go ahead and play with your new products and share with us what you make.

I had fun playing with my new stamps and dies that coordinate...Scentsational Season Bundle which included a stamp set and matching framelit dies focussing on Christmas (although I didn't use the scented embossing powder on this card)...and I have used it for a non-Christmas card it was for a birthday card for my niece Jorja. My niece has Down Syndrome and this coming weekend I was hoping to participate in the Buddy Walk, which is a fundraising campaign for Down Syndrome Tasmania, with Jorja and her family however, I will be doing my first market to the season on the same day at the same time. So instead I made a donation to the great cause, which is to help support these families and in particular to enable children with Down Syndrome to realise their full potential. So proud of the progress Jorja is making and she just loves school.

Here is the card of made for her of tumbling gingerbread men...they are yummy to eat at anytime of the year!

Now pop on over to Just Add Ink to see what other lovely products the Design Team have been playing with and then join in the fun yourself and upload your created project.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your weekend...off to drive my new car again!

Faux Patina and Christmas Stockings!

Well I didn't actually combine the Faux Patina technique with the Christmas stockings, however, they will be both being demonstrated at a stamp workshop that I am holding this afternoon when this post goes live. Just a warning this post is longer than my usual so you might want to grab yourself a cuppa before you start reading or you can simply sroll through and look at the pictures, which I sometimes do when I am short on time and am blog hopping!

I was introduced to the Faux Patina technique through an entry in last week's JAI challenge from Karren (click on her name to view her fabulous card), and was inspired to try this new technique. I also needed something 'new' to show the ladies this afternoon as many of them are regulars to my monthly stamp classes (when I am not too busy and hold them!) and I wanted something different to show them.

Here is the first card I created using the technique and heat embossing with gold embossing powder (although this is not my favourite)...

I think what I don't like about it is the 'for you' panel, it doesn't feel like it blends into the card well, it just feels stuck on. I was trying not to use a panel/greeting that was too big and would hide the beautiful faux patina and ended up with something that doesn't quite work. Oh well, not every card is going to be just right.

Here is the second card I made with the same technique, except that I used Champagne Glimmer Mist at the end rather than Gold Embossing Powder, and I like this one much better...

Now for the other items that I prepared for the workshop and from which they will be doing a make 'n' take, decorating a Christmas stocking card...as the hostess has a guest (hi Karen!) who wants to see how this die gets put together and used.

I have taken inspiration from Nikki Spencer's gift to me as part of my Secret Santa present last year (I think that is when I got it from Nikki)...a Christmas stocking made from felt and beautiful stitching...

I then decorated a couple of Christmas Stocking Cards...

I also followed a video on how to make the Christmas Stocking into an ornament that could be filled with some lovely goodies (although I didn't have anything to put in it at this time)...

I haven't, but you could put a ribbon on the top of this to hang it from the Christmas tree.

Hostesses generally receive a FREE Catalogue for hosting a workshop, but as Sarah had already received hers at my Catalogue launch, I decided to give her a gift of a FREE Snail Refill (you can never have enough adhesive!) and decided to package it in another personalised Stocking card, inspired by this video...

I am hoping that everyone has fun this afternoon and enjoys the new technique and getting to play with the Christmas Stocking Die.

JAI#138 - Colour Challenge

Well this week over at Just Add Ink, the lovely Kim Badelt has challenged us to incorporate one of the new Stampin' Up! In Colors "Summer Starfruit" into our projects this week, along with two other neutral colours...Basic Gray and Whisper White. I had these three ink pads sitting on my desk for over a week trying to gather inspiration, for some reason I didn't and still don't really like Summer Starfruit, although others just love it!
However, as it was my turn to put a project forward as part of the DT I just add to make something and so I decided to "just let myself play" as others often put it and see what gets created. So I used a new stamp set of mine "Papaya Collage" and decided that I wanted to do some fussy cutting of these images and to make a collage type effect. I made the various elements and just placed them on my card, moving them around until I was satisfied with the layout and then decided to add dimension...with you guessed it Stampin' Dimensionals, to raise various elements off the card.

I was going to use some of the Summer Starfruit Stitched Satin Ribbon that had just arrived in the mail as part of a JAI Ribbon Swap, but it just didn't look right and I felt I needed some white ribbon to give it a lift and to stick with the feel of the card.

So after several hours of just playing at my craft desk this is the card that I finished up with, what do you think?

I even decorated the inside of the card, however, I seem to have forgotten to photograph that view.

You have to pop on over to the Just Add Ink blog to check out what the other DT team created, they have some lovely inspirational projects...and then join in the fun of this week's colour challenge and upload your entry to share with us.

Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely weekend...I intend to as I have a stamp workshop with friends and local ladies on Saturday afternoon (hi Sarah!).

JAI#137 - Sketch Challenge

Although it is not my week to either design or to do the weekly post for Just Add Ink I thought I would still join in with this week's sketch challenge.

As I had a wedding invitation come in the mail this week I thought why not make a wedding card and to use some of the new In Color Summer Starfruit that was sitting on my craft desk, plus, a colour combination from the new In Color Coach cards...and so this was the result...

Hop on over to the Just Add Ink blog to see what the other Design Team came up with using the sketch as inspiration and then join in the fun yourself.
