A nice surprise!

This morning on checking my emails I received a nice surprise from the ladies over at the Perfectly Rustics challenge site...they had selected my card as the winner for their sketch challenge. I know there was only three entries, but this site is still new and it takes awhile to get noticed, and for others to take up the challenge. So check them out and join in the fun when you can.

To see the card I entered click here and here is the lovely rosette they awarded me...

Thank you ladies.

JAI #179 - Sketch Challenge

Friday means it is time for another Just Add Ink challenge and this week it is a sketch challenge. Here is the sketch...

I have visitors staying in my craft room at the moment but they were out for tea (Wednesday evening), so I quickly popped in and whipped up this card using some of my newest DSP. I think sometimes when I don't think too much about what I am creating I come up with better cards than when I think too much about them. I am reasonably happy with this one, considering it only took me 20 minutes to put together. Having a sketch makes it so much easier to know where your are heading with your creation, plus, coordinating DSP and cardstock.

Have a great weekend and have fun playing with our sketch. Don't forget to pop on over to the JAI blog to see what other projects were made using this sketch.

More Masculine Cards

My son asked that I make a card for his friend, who almost shares the same birthday as him, but they are three days apart...they should have been seven weeks apart but, his mum when two weeks overdue and I went five weeks early! Anyway, I thought that since both my son and I liked the card I made for his birthday I would recreate it, but instead of the motorbike image (which had significance for my son) I would just substitute a different image. The rest of the other elements were virtually the same, including the DSP I used.

Here is the new card (click here to see my son's original birthday card)...

It will be late getting to him, my usual practice these days it seems, because I haven't packaged up a gift for his beautiful newborn baby boy yet, who was born last month.

I also have another birthday next week that I needed to make a couple of cards for as my daughter's boyfriend is celebrating his birthday on Tuesday. She wanted me to make her a card to give him and I also needed one to go with our gift to him, so here they are (Emily can get to choose which one she wants and I will give the other). He doesn't follow my blog so I think I am safe sharing it here early.

He is a tradie so I thought this card might be an appropriate theme...

As you can see I have been on a roll using one of the new Designer Series Paper Packs that we have, Soho Subway (130140), and cardstock Early Espresso and Island Indigo that I may have to replenish my supplies. They make it easier to create masculine cards, although I did create a more feminine card using this DSP in an earlier post (click here to view) and even a child's 4th birthday card (click here to view). So you can see how versatile this DSP pack is.

Buying Designer Series Paper packs from Stampin' Up! at the moment is pretty good because for every 3 packs you buy you get 1 for FREE! Now who doesn't love a bargain. Remember this special is just for the month of August so get you supplies of beautiful paper soon. If you order online through my store don't forget to include my August Hostess Code E9TWEY96, click here to see more details).

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find something inspiring here on my blog. Have a enjoyable weekend.

Baby Card

My son's long-time friend Sam and his partner recently celebrated the arrival of their first born, a beautiful baby boy, Charles James, born on 10 July 2013. As usual I am late getting a card created and sent off to them, however, my excuse has been working long hours and no time to go shopping! Well today I had my first week-day off in 6 weeks and it coincided with my husband's day off, so we went out for the day just to relax and do whatever we wanted, that wasn't work!

While I was out I bought a few baby items, don't you just love buying those type of things, and when I came home of course I had to get into my craft room to create the perfect card to go with those cute little items. (I did have to clear a little bit of space on my desk to make it though! The rest I will tidy up later, I hope!)

Anyway, the reason for this post is to share the card I made with you and to also enter it into the Perfectly Rustics sketch challenge, which I used as my starting point and some of Stampin' Up!'s lovely designer series paper, Gingham Garden. Here is my finished card...

I even continued with my recent efforts of decorating the inside of the card too...

One of the things I realised I do need to get though is an Island Indigo SU! marker and some more cardstock as I seem to be using that colour a lot lately...maybe because it coordinates so well with some of the new DSP. A marker helps me when I want to colour just some parts of a stamp image and the rest with another colour.

By the way don't forget SU!'s current 3 packs DSP and get 1 FREE! I know I am going to take advantage of that offer as I just LOVE DSP!! Check out my specials page to see what is on offer at the moment with Stampin' Up! and if you order online through me don't forget my August Hostess Code E9TWEY96.

I also used some of the beautiful Island Indigo Chevron Ribbon (pop on over to my product shares page to get your hands on some of this lovely ribbon along with some of the other colours too!).

Baby Prints is a great stamp set for new babies or baby showers etc.

Product Supplies:

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my post, I hope to have another to share with you soon, as I need to now make a birthday card for my great-nephew Xavier who is turning one this Saturday.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

JAI #177 - Colour Challenge

It's Friday, and that means time again for another Just Add Ink challenge, and this week it is the colour combination of...

I realised I was running a bit low on female orientated birthday cards, so I thought these colours would do just nicely. This card has also found it's way to one of our JAI Design Team members who celebrated a birthday this week (happy birthday again Christine!) and I hope she liked it as much as I did making it.

I often enjoy stamping on DSP so this time I thought I would stamp a soft image onto my main Pool Party card panel (image from Creative Elements Stamp Set) before running it through an embossing folder. Don't you just love the effect of the new Modern Mosaic Embossing Folder? I know I do!

I had also recently shown some of my stamp class attendees how I used an image from the Mixed Bunch Stamp Set to create a beautiful butterfly using the emboss resist technique and thought that would go very nicely on my front panel. I then added some of my new Calypso Coral Chevron Ribbon, an embelishment and greeting (a little stamping with Gorgeous Grunge) and my card was done!

Don't forget to pop on over to the Just Add Ink blog to see what lovely projects the other DT members created and then join in the fun too!

Enjoy your weekend.

Just Add Blokes!

Last Friday's Just Add Ink's challenge is to 'Just Add ... Blokes!' (of any age) and I created a birthday card for one of the blokes in my life. However, I couldn't post it until now, as that bloke is my son, and he is one of my card-making fans and blog followers. So I had to wait until I gave it to him for his birthday yesterday. Can you guess how old he is from the card?

I love how the Soho Subway DSP had a page with numbers and that 2 and 3 were so close together that I could utilise them in the flag to celebrate this particular birthday. I also like using DSP as it gives me a colour scheme to work with, utilising Early Espresso, Island Indigo and Very Vanilla.

Just recently my son (who I wouldn't have picked to do this) decided he wanted to learn to ride a motorcycle, so he went for an orientation session to see if he would like it and guess what? Yes, he got hooked and so has recently bought himself a motorbike and the gear to go with it and passed his 'L' test with guess who is now going to worry about him on two wheels and not just 4!

Here is the actually bike he bought, and which added to my birthday card theme...

So I decided to also carry on the theme of the bike and his dreams into the the inside of my card...

Don't forget to pop on over to the Just Add Ink blog to see what the other girls created from this challenge, find further inspiration and then join in the fun too.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your weekend.
