Forty & Fabulous!

Well someone dear to me is turning 40 this month, my little sister Ann-Mary, and she lives in Victoria so I don't get to see her very often. I will catch up with her in August after her birthday when I attend my husband's nephew's wedding...otherwise I might have flown over and surprised her this weekend...but the budget doesn't stretch to that luxury, although the thought is there!

It will also be interesting if she sees this card first on my blog or FB as the snail mail these days is just that!

It was interesting how this card came together as I knew the paper I wanted to use because I loved the colour combination, Island Indigo, Mint Macaron and Sahara Sand, and also wanted to use one of my retired stamps that would help with my greeting of '40 & Fabulous'. I stamped the ampersand from a retired stamp set in Mint Macaron to blend the phrase 'fabulous is what you are' in with the 40 badge! Then it sat for a while on my craft desk until I got the flow to put it together as I didn't have a design or layout in mind, other than the paper and theme to use.

I am not sure now that I like the badge as much now that I have clear embossed it, I think perhaps it may have blended better with the card if I had left it just in the Sahara Sand as the embossing has darkened it relative to the rest of the colour scheme. Perhaps I should have made it a badge she could take off the card and wear, but I didn't think of that until later!

I really like how well my double bow tied in the neutral Crumb Cake Seam Binding Ribbon (also retired...but it is good to use all our craft supplies, retired or not, otherwise why would we invest in products we can't use again and again!).

When I make a very special card for a very special person, I always decorate the inside of my card as well, so as not to spoil the effect of the front with a plain, boring centre.

Much of these products are from my retired stock, other than the beautiful DSP and coordinating cardstock, plus the stamp used for the inside greeting. So if you want to have a play with this lovely DSP then click on the image below or go to my Online Store here to order.

Last days to order $90 in July and receive a Bonus Day Coupon of $9 to redeem in August.

Snowing here!

Well it is snowing here in Tasmania, and it even tried to snow a little here at Dodges Ferry at sea level, and so I think it was a perfect day to be playing in my craft room and I think it even had an influence on the card I made today.

I saw the colour combination over at the Global Design Project and thought I would like to play along and thought I would use the soon to be, limited time release stamp set/bundle, Thoughtful Branches. The Thoughtful Branches bundle will be available to customers in August. If you take advantage of the Bonus Days offer in July (for every $90 you spend) you earn a $9 coupon which you can use towards this bundle (or other products)!

I used a piece of the Irresistibly Floral Specialty DSP and sponged it with Smoky Slate ink which looked a little bit like snow falling (although a dirty grey snow!) and I sponged it darker on the edges and lighter in the centre where my tree was to be placed to give the effect of light shining through the branches.

With the tree die I cut out two pieces one in Smoky Slate and the other in Basic Black and mounted the Smoky Slate tree slightly off the Basic Black to give the effect of a shadow. My Fine Tip Glue Pen works great for adhering these die cuts of intricate designs.

I mounted my front panel onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock and then added a pop of Melon Mambo with three little birds in my tree. I used small rhinestones for their sparkly eyes. I added a simple greeting in Basic Black ink and then carried my tree theme over into the inside of my card.

You can purchase any of the items I have used in my project today by visiting my online store HERE, or by clicking on the images below. The Thoughtful Branches Bundle will be available in August and don't forget your opportunity of earning a $9 coupon by joining in the Bonus Days promotion this month (for every $90 you spend in July you'll get a $9 Bonus Days coupon to redeem in August).

If your order is less than $250 don't forget to also enter my July Hostess Code: S3HPGKYA, before you finalise your order, to receive in August a thank you card from me and an extra little gift! Make sure you don't select 'No Contact' otherwise I can't send you your card and gift as I won't know who you are.
