Just Add Ink #467 - Sketch Challenge!

Do you ever have that feeling that you JUST NEED TO CREATE no matter what other things need doing, like the housework or tidying up your craft desk (yes Jody-ann I know!), before you play with your stamps, ink and paper?

Well today after spending the morning in my other job, preparing tax returns, I came home and just felt that I needed the peace of my craft room and therapy of putting a card together...so I did!

I often need a place to start from whether that be a sketch, colour combination, stamp set or some other inspiration to get me going and so one of my go to places is the Just Add Ink team's blog and their weekly challenges! This week they have a sketch challenge and I thought why not, that way I not only have the enjoyment of creating a card, for a friend who is in hospital at the moment, but also get a chance to join in another of their great challenges.

I also had a idea in my head and thought I saw a card in the Annual Catalogue (p 35) that I would also use for inspiration. I checked out our demonstrator resource, however, I didn't see the project details on there so I had to guess how it was created and the colours used.

At first I wasn't sure my colour choice worked together, Calypso Coral and Blushing Bride, however, by the time the card was put together I was quite pleased with the result.

My card base was Blushing Bride with a panel embossed using the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder, adds a little texture without being overstated. I sponged a piece of Whisper White cardstock with Calypso Coral ink, being more heavy handed and darker at the bottom section, before spritzing with a little water to create subtle splotches. This was then cut out with a die from the Stitched Rectangle Dies.

The flowers were stamped, from the Flourishing Phrases stamp set, in Blushing Bride ink and the centre petals inked with a Calypso Coral Stampin' Write Marker (now retired), however, you could use a Blender Pen to pick up the ink from an ink pad to do the same. I then spritzed water on the stamp before stamping it onto my white cardstock to create a watercolour look. I fussy cut my flowers as well as my leaves. The leaves were inked in the same way with Pear Pizzazz and spritzed with water before stamping.

I die cut some flourishes and elements from the Flourish Dies set in Whisper White and then placed my elements on the Calypso Coral panel using either Fine Tip Glue, Glue Dots or Stampin' Dimensionals depending upon whether I wanted the element raised up or stuck directly onto the panel.

It took me a little time to find a suitable greeting in my current stamps and this was from the Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set, stamped in Pear Pizzazz and onto an appropriately sized die from the Stitched Nested Labels (one of my current favourites and go to sets).

Of course, no card is complete without some bling so a few randomly placed Rhinestones and my front was complete.

Thanks for stopping by, have a great weekend, and don't forget to pop on over to the Just Add Ink blog to see what the design team created using this sketch as their starting point.
