Just Add A Rainbow!

Hi and welcome to my blog!

Today I wanted to make a thank you card for one of my best friends, Jody-ann, who gave me a beautiful Christmas gift to share with her and our other bestie, Rose! It was to attend a session at Colour & Cork (Hobart) where we were taught how to paint a picture on canvas. The session Rose and I chose was that of a Kombi because it looked more appealing to us and our friend Jody-ann just loves Kombi's and has one of her own. It also looked like a fun beach themed picture which would suit hanging in our home, as we have a view of the water, living above Park Beach, Dodges Ferry.

If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram you would have seen some of the photos that I shared there and which inspired this card design as well as fitting so well into this week's Just Add Ink challenge to...Just Add A Rainbow!

That theme also fits my friend so well and she had on her colourful rainbow sneakers on the night too!

I came up with the idea for this card driving home yesterday from the movies with my husband and I still don't know why I thought of it, however, I am glad that I got it out of my head and into an actual project. I often have ideas floating in my head but either lack the time or motivation to get them created, but not this time!

My friend Di Barnes has been creating a few cards with a framed effect, including one for the March Stamping Sisters Tutorial Bundles, and so this was appropriate I thought to use on my card design since it was a thank you for a painting workshop. As Jody-ann loves bright cheerful colours, and of course God's creation of the rainbow (and it fitted with JAI's weekly challenge!), I thought I would add strips of colour to reflect the rainbow. I was tossing up with the idea of putting my strips of coloured cardstock horizontally or diagonally and so decided on horizontal.

The big die cut 'Thankyou' was just apt for my sentiment and as I had several precut in Whisper White I thought I would use my sponge daubers and ink rainbow colours over it, opposite to my rainbow panel, for greater effect. I think it worked out well.

As this thank you card was to do with our painting session I thought the pot of paint brushes in the 'Crafting Forever' stamp set was just appropriate, and Jody-ann also loves to craft and create handmade cards etc. I stamped the image with Memento Black ink and then used corresponding colours in our Stampin' Blends range to colour my paint brushes. I also used the technique of 'paper piecing' and stamped the pot on a piece of DSP from the See A Silhouette pack and cut it out, sticking it over my inked pot image, to add more colour!

I was really happy with how this card turned out and I am sure she will just love it too! Having made a beautiful front masterpiece I had to carry on through to the inside of the card and decorate that too.

The sentiment is also appropriate for how I feel and it comes from the 'Peaceful Moments' stamp set.

Isn't it annoying when your card is almost complete, and stuck together, and you have some fresh ink on your finger or hand and it gets onto your project! Well don't stress because there is always a way to fix it, in my case a little flower from the 'Gingham Gala Adhesive-Backed Sequins'.

This wasn't my first attempt at a rainbow themed card but it is my preferred. The first one I created was this one...

PS - I just realised when uploading this card that I did actually add a few raindrops, more on this one than the other, using Versamark ink and the raindrops stamp from the 'Under My Umbrella' stamp set.

Now that's a fabulous rainbow, Mae. So much lovely colour. I'm glad I've got you on to the joy of the framed effect and that you had time to play along with our JAI rainbow challenge too.
