Classic Garage Suite - Just Add Ink #440

The new Classic Garage Suite in our 2019 Occasions Catalogue is a great suite of products to create cards and projects to celebrate the men in our lives, whether it be our fathers, brothers, inlaws, male friends or a work colleague.

I find I make more feminine or flowery/pretty cards than masculine ones, so I felt it about time to focus a class/workshop on masculine cards, and the Classic Garage Suite made this easy!

My creative process for these cards was to put all the suite of products (yes I did buy them all!) out on my craft table, the beautiful classic DSP, the coordinating cardstock, ink, the metallic striped ribbon and the cute metal elements plus, of course the Geared Up Garage stamp set and coordinating Garage Gears Thinlits Dies! This allowed me to see all the coordinating products in full and to make sure I had everything that went together so well, a trademark of Stampin' Up! that I love and what got me hooked on their products over 12 years ago!

I also knew that I wanted to create a grungy, brick wall background on my cards using our fabulous Embossing Paste (not realising that it had been so long playing with this product that my opened jar hard gone hard! So glad I had bought two!!). Plus, I thought some gears cut out of our Silver Foil Sheets would also go well on my project.

With all this in mind and close at hand on my table I found my first card came together quickly and I was very happy with it. [I might try to replicate this one and the next mount it on Smoky Slate cardstock to see if it 'pops' some more! A suggestion put to me by one of my friends and artistic critics.]

I also need to find a spot to reset up my light box as these photos were taken in the evening and the light wasn't so good to photograph. It appears better colour-wise in the group shot above.

My second card I coloured the embossing paste with Basic Gray ink refill and did the same brickwork background on a different dsp sheet from the pack.

The top red card I stamped, coloured with Stampin' Blends, and then cut using the coordinating die. However, for the classic black car below I fussy cut it from a sheet of dsp. That same sheet has cars like the style above that can be directly cut with a coordinating die! I LOVE how these dsp sheets have elements that match with the dies, even the cogs that I used in my third card, were cut from a sheet of dsp!! Gotta love Stampin' Up!'s creative designers!

My third and final card using this suite is an easy one too but this time I also incorporated the Happy Birthday die. I was really happy with how all three cards turned out and so pleased that I created these and this time, as I had time to play, I didn't need to CASE other cards to get my creative juices flowing.

I also thought that these fitting in so well with the current Just Add Ink theme of 'Just Add Something New'...these girls are so inspiring and when I am stuck for ideas or a place to start I often pop on over to their blog. As a past team member it is so great to catch up with these girls face to face at Stampin' Up!'s OnStage events and if they are going to Auckland NZ in April I am sure going to miss seeing them as this time I can't go. However, I will be keen to see where the November event is held and will make that a goal to attend. I love so much about Stampin' Up!, not just the coordinating and quality of products (plus, my demo discount!), but also the friendships developed with both customers and demonstrators and staff, it is like one big happy family!

Yay for a very productive card session, Mae. These are all great masculine cards. The brick wall works so well with them too.

Fab cards, Mae! I've tried to make do with just the DSP, but I think I need the whole suite. I will miss you April :(

PS, you can rescue your embossing paste but adding a tiny bit of water, leaving it a bit, and then stirring it through. Repeat until it's back to the usual consistency.
